Phanat Xanamane, an urban designer and gardener/farmer is a devoted resident of New Iberia, Louisiana. Raised in the vibrant African-American community of the 'West End,' Phanat's journey began when he and his family emigrated from Laos at a young age. After studying urban design at Columbia University and gaining experience in New York City and Bangkok, he returned to his hometown in 2010 with a mission to revitalize the community.
Phanat's approach is hands-on and action-oriented. He embraces collaboration by sharing his ideas with friends and neighbors, seeking their feedback and transforming those ideas into tangible realities.
As an openly gay Asian refugee, he has fearlessly led Envision da Berry, an organization that breaks down racial and social barriers, fostering a united vision for the future of small-town America.
Phanat Xanamane's dedication to New Iberia is unwavering. He’s received many accolades for his work in the community including Louisianan of the Year and Citizen of the Year. With his expertise in urban design and his passion for community revitalization, he has embarked on a transformative journey to create a thriving and inclusive hometown.
