Dr. Robert "Bobby" Darrow is a native of Shreveport, where he served as the student body president at C.E. Byrd High School. He earned his BA degree from Centenary College of Louisiana in 1981, his MA from LSUS in 2001, and his EdD in Leadership from LSUS in 2018. Darrow established The Philadelphia Center with founder Marcus Spurlock, MD, in 1990, and serves there as the Executive Director Emeritus. He spent a decade as CEO in corporate management, including General Manager of Cowboy’s Club and Restaurant in Bossier City and Baton Rouge, and Chevy’s Diner and Bar in Manhattan, New York. For the past 33 years, Darrow has served as CEO of nonprofit organizations. Darrow has served as the Managing and Artistic Director of the Shreveport Little Theatre and Academy for several decades. In 2022, Darrow authored a book, “Maker of Dreams,” and a documentary film by the same name that premiered on LPB in August 2023. The book and film celebrate 100 years of live theatre at Shreveport Little Theatre.
Darrow has numerous honors including the Community Foundation of North Louisiana’s 2008 “G. Scott Griffin Memorial Award,” The Philadelphia Center’s 2015 “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and The Times’ (Gannett’s) 2016 “Northwest Louisiana Prism Award." He is a former board member of the Greater Shreveport Human Relations Commission. Darrow is an animal rights advocate, who helped start the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux. Darrow is the son of Jean Darrow and the late Bill Darrow, both former educators with Caddo Parish Schools.
